Foster
Foster volunteers play a critical role in the lifesaving mission of the Scott County Humane Society by providing temporary, loving homes for cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies who are not yet ready for adoption. Animals may require foster placement because they are too young for adoption, recovering from illness or injury, nursing a litter, or simply need extra time and socialization before finding their forever families.
Foster placements can range from short-term care lasting just a few weeks to longer-term commitments of several months, depending on the animal’s individual needs. By opening your homes to these animals, a foster caregiver provides a safe, comfortable environment where pets can grow, heal, and thrive outside of the shelter setting.
SCHS supplies everything needed for the foster animal’s care, including food, litter, collars, leashes, preventatives, and any necessary support. Foster volunteers are never alone in the process and receive ongoing guidance and assistance from our dedicated dog and cat program coordinators.
By becoming a foster volunteer, you provide more than just temporary shelter. You offer hope, healing, and a bridge to a brighter future for animals waiting for their forever families. Your compassion and commitment directly contribute to SCHS's ability to save more lives and strengthen the bond between people and pets in our community.
