Spay/Neuter
At the Scott County Humane Society, we believe every pet deserves a safe, loving home. One of the most effective ways to reduce the number of homeless animals in our community is through spaying and neutering.

By choosing to spay or neuter your pet, you are helping reduce shelter intake and ensuring that more animals have the opportunity to find permanent homes.
Spaying and neutering help prevent unplanned litters and can provide important health benefits for pets. Female pets may have a reduced risk of certain reproductive diseases, while male pets avoid testicular cancer and may experience fewer hormone-driven behaviors.

These procedures can also help reduce roaming, fighting, and other behaviors that put pets at risk of injury or becoming lost.
Together, we can build a community where every pet is wanted, cared for, and loved.
Key Benefits of Spaying and Neutering
Improves pet health
Spaying can prevent serious uterine infections and reduce the risk of certain cancers in females. Neutering eliminates the risk of testicular cancer and can reduce prostate-related problems in males.
Prevents unwanted litters and reduces pet overpopulation
Millions of unwanted dogs and cats enter shelters each year. Spaying and neutering help reduce the number of homeless animals and euthanasia rates.
Reduces unwanted behaviors
Neutered males are generally less likely to roam, mark territory with urine, or engage in mating-related behaviors. Spayed females no longer go into heat, which can reduce stress and nuisance behaviors.
Can save pet owners money
The cost of a spay or neuter procedure is typically far less than the expenses associated with pregnancy, birth, and caring for a litter of puppies or kittens.
May increase lifespan
Studies cited by veterinary and animal welfare organizations have found that spayed and neutered pets often live longer on average than intact pets.
Low Cost Spay/Neuter Voucher
The Scott County Humane Society is pleased to offer discounted spay and neuter vouchers for cats and dogs to Scott County residents who receive government assistance.

To help keep your pet healthy and protected, a rabies vaccination must be purchased with the voucher unless you can provide proof that your pet is already current on their rabies vaccine. Proof of government assistance is required for all voucher purchases, with the exception of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) vouchers. Please note that vouchers are non-refundable.

Vouchers can be purchased in person at the Scott County Humane Society Adoption Center and can be used at one of our two participating veterinarian partners, All 4 Paws or Noble View Veterinary Clinic. TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) Program
Since 2005, the Scott County Humane Society has proudly supported a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program to help improve the lives of free-roaming cats in our community. Whether a cat is feral or an unowned stray, TNR provides a humane way to reduce cat overpopulation while improving the health and well-being of outdoor cats.
Through this program, eligible cats receive spay or neuter surgery, a rabies vaccination, and an ear tip, which is the universal sign that a cat has been sterilized. After recovery, cats are returned to the outdoor area they call home, where they can continue living while no longer contributing to homeless cat populations.
Scott County Humane Society provides free TNR vouchers to Scott County residents and caretakers of unowned outdoor cats. Vouchers are valid for 30 days from the date of issuance, and there is no limit to the number of vouchers that may be requested for eligible cats.

Please note: TNR vouchers are accepted only at Noble View Veterinary Clinic. To participate in the program, cats must be returned to their outdoor home following surgery, and ear tipping is required. Vouchers can be obtained in person at the Scott County Humane Society Adoption Center.
By working together, we can help create a healthier, more compassionate community for both cats and the people who care about them.
